Leisure walk & Jewish Shabbat meal in the eyes of Herod the Great

Oshra and Amit Barak live in their home with their three children. An Israeli family from a small community in the Judean Mountains, invites you to join us for a unique, homey experience. Join us for a traditional Jewish family Shabbat meal.

We will get to know each other, converse, eat, and experience a little of the Jewish Sabbath tradition. We will take a leisurely walk through the settlement's paths, located in Gush Etzion on the fringes of the Judean desert, between the ancestral town of the prophet Amos, Tekoa, and the historic Herodium, associated with King Herod and the warriors of Bar Kochba. Additionally, we will have the opportunity to visit the community's small synagogue.

A little bit more about our story:

Oshra was born and raised on a kibbutz where food was cooked and prepared in a shared kitchen and eaten by the entire community in a common dining hall.
One of the cooks who worked in the kibbutz kitchen was Oshra's mother. After the common kitchen and dining hall were closed, Oshra's mother started cooking at home, where she taught her daughter the culinary arts.

 Aside from her love of cooking and hosting guests from all over the world, Oshra works as a nurse at a community clinic. Oshra, who has patients, some born and raised in Israel and others who immigrated (did Aliyah) from different parts of the world, loves listening to their stories about the various types of food they cook at home. She enjoys trying and incorporating some of these recipes into her own household. 

Amit is a licensed tour guide. He was trained at Haifa University's School of Tourism, and also holds a bachelor's degree in history from the Open University, where he was on the Dean's List, and a master's degree in the history of the Jewish People from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. 
He is an expert on Israel's relationship with the Christian world. 
Amit has developed and led delegations and visits by Jews and Christians to churches, Christian communities, Jewish communities and synagogues in Israel and around the world. 
He is one of the founders of various organizations in Israel that work to integrate Christians into the society and to bring Jews and Christians together and served as Father Gabriel Naddaf of Nazareth's project manager for 5 years. In 2020, he was chosen as one of the seventy "bridge builders" - Top activists in Christian-Jewish engagement. 
Together with a partner, he developed the educational board game, "Way of the Patriarchs." "The Way of the Patriarchs" is an ancient road that passes through the Land of Israel, where Amit also specializes as a tour guide.
